City of Champions

It's been a very long time since I actually signed myself up for a local road race but I'm way under-raced again this year and the 1st Annual Level Renner 10k sounded like fun. I hooked up with Jim and Krissy for the ride down and we warmed up on the big loop of the course with another CMS member, Scott Deslongchamps. The field looked really quick up front so the big questions were whether or not we had the horses for a team win and whether or not I could be in the mix for the masters win. The course would have two loops, one small loop with tower hill twice, and then a longer loop with tower hill right at the finish. I kind of knew in the back of my head that the last climb was probably going to be not so good. The gun goes off and right away Jim and I hook up side by side and we are both going to be in it for the long hall. The pace felt a bit quick early but we both grinded the first loop out and headed out for the bigger of the two loops. We went back and forth with each other but I don't think either of us were willing to make a break. It would have made for a real lonely run back in. We took the last real sharp turn back up into the hill and I was pretty much toast and babbled something to Jim to go ahead. I tried to just use him to get up over the climb and finish up. Turns out we had enough horses for the team win and I took the masters win which was nice. It's been a real long time since that has happened.

Beach Blanket Bingo

A few of us met up in Nahant for a rare Saturday long run to preview the 30k course.
I knew going in that potentially this could be trouble for the achilles. All in all despite the hills and the pavement everything was pretty good. The course can be challenging in spots so the idea was to just be on our feet for 2 hours. For the most part the group stayed together until about 3 to go when the pace got frisky. I'm going to play it smart tomorrow and stay flat and soft on the Danvers rail trail but do it later in the day.

One toke over the line

This post is for the two fat chicks walking their mountain bikes while puffing away on the marijuana. Get your ass on the bikes and get in shape. Everything was clicking tonight on my run. Just after my foot warmed up, I felt nothing and was able to push off without any pain.

Lobsta Backs

Spent most of my Sunday morning and some of my afternoon in Connecticut at a VW car show with Pawlicki. On our way home we stopped in Lexington and ran the trails into Great Meadows and back into the Bedford bike trail and back to the car for a pretty exhausting 13.5 miler. I didn't feel all that good especially when we hit the pavement late in the run. My achilles didn't like it. The scenery was realing amazing, especially the bird sanctuary coming out of the trails in Lexington. The people of Lexington, Bedford, and Concord were all amazed at how Pawlicki can run without a shirt on.

Bonkers for Rail Trail

Up bright and early to meet up with Dunham, Pawlicki, and Putnam for a nice 15 miler on the Danvers rail trail. The Achilles felt amazing up until about 10 miles or so and then I could feel it just a bit. The run went by amazingly fast and the weather was cool which kept the bugs away for the most part. Back to work tomorrow although all the work I did on the car has made me pretty sore and miserable.
